Friendships between faiths and nationalities

During the summer of 2022 Mr. Inder Singh and his wife came to Glasgow. They became regular visitors to The Bowling Green. The most incredible friendship blossomed between this couple of Sikh faith and Indian nationality with our local Muslim, Pakistani families who embraced them like their own. Our shared heritage of food, language, and culture is hard to erase even decades after the partition of India.

Pakistan and India Joint Celebration

A first of its kind in Glasgow and indeed the UK, a joint celebration of India and Pakistan's independence from the British. South Asians live and work together outside their home countries. The politics of hate do not extend to those of us who see each other in our very existence. We were one people divided by colonialism. Pakistanis, Bengalis, and Indians are looking at ways to make peace with a past that still holds a lot of painful wounds. We choose love over hate.

Saving the planet with Minga Indigena at COP 26

The Bowling Green community and Pollokshields welcomed the indigenous tribes that make Minga Indigena. We became their hosts and in return, they shared their knowledge and struggles of trying to live in a world that threatens their very existence. The climate catastrophe that looms over us affects people of the south and developing countries more adversely than the west. COP 26 in Glasgow became home to the international community and we provided food and shelter to all those who came through our gates. We have forged a lasting friendship that we cherish with Minga Indigena.

Community Iftar Meals

Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims all over the world. For one month Muslims will abstain from eating or drinking water from sunrise to sunset. It is a time for reflection, and gratitude for the things we have, it is a time for worship, giving in charity, and being the best version of humanity. It was our absolute privilege to be able to host our local communities from all faiths and no faith to break bread with those of us who were fasting. We believe that our differences should be celebrated and not feared. The Human family is so unique and diverse but therein lies our beauty. The acceptance that we are different yet we are the same in our humanness.

Free Pride

Free Pride as well as other LGBTQ groups and individuals have been welcomed to the Bowling Green to host and celebrate their days of coming together. To be seen and heard as people who often are persecuted for being who they are. We understand the difficulties they face and want to continue to foster safe spaces for all communities that are at risk of being targeted.

Amal Is Welcomed

Amal was welcomed with open arms to our Bowling Green. A day that our local School Children and community won't forget. Amal represents the hopes and dreams of every child and adult who risks their lives to find a home when there's has been taken. Wars and endless violence in parts of the world have led to a rise in refugees and asylum seekers who want to live and protect their families. Unfortunately, we know that these people face a hostile reception when trying to find safe passage to Europe or the UK. The labelling and dehumanizing of people already suffering is cruel. We intentionally want to create welcoming spaces for people who are made to feel like outsiders.
